Stop the stupid chatter
Dear Editor,
As a politician you are invited to a lot of functions, and if your Government is in power there are even more events to which you get invited.
Indeed, our politicians from all sides love to chat a lot. It is very rare to meet a reticent politician, except for Calvin Coolidge, a former president of the United States who was referred to as Silent Cal. Indeed, when Silent Cal was asked if he would run for a second term in office he famously simply said, “No.”
I do not think there is a Silent Cal version amongst our Jamaica politicians, unless they were born dumb. I know we have at least one blind senator and, of course, all 63 have some form of selective hearing impairment.
This brings me to the matter of Member of Parliament (MP) Homer Davis and his quite ludicrous suggestion that police and gangsters meet in a summit. I am, however, relieved to hear Deputy Commissioner of Police Fitz Bailey say he will not entertain this idea/suggestion.
But this utterance from the mouth of MP Davis ought to remind us that most of our politicians have only one asset/liability: ‘Dem just love chat.’ They really do not have any solutions for many things affecting the average Joe.
The Government solution to almost everything is either to hide or carry on a chat fest in which a lot of nonsense is spewed.
Here is a suggestion to solve crime and catch criminals: Put cameras on the over 300,000 Jamaica Public Service poles out there. Spend some money to save lives. That is the only solution — camera surveillance along the main thoroughfares. It is much better than witness testimony any day.
So stop the stupid chatter and bring some brain power to the solution instead of the ‘bag a’ useless talk.
