NEW YORK, USA – The Brooklyn All-White Popup Dinner Party (also known as Soiree Dans Le Parc) returned with a bang on June 4 at Randalls Island in Manhattan. It attracted over 3,000 guests including Eric Adams, mayor of New York City.

Jamaican Sephron Mair is head of the Signature Society, which organises the event. He told OBSERVER ONLINE that expectation was high after last year’s cancellation due to COVID-19, and the show was sold-out two days early.

Adams was among the well-known attendees.

“The mayor’s office called before the event and loved the concept of a friendly, large gathering of friends and family expressing themselves in oneness. He had to see for himself and immediately wanted to lend his help,” said Mair.

The ‘Popup Party’ is a dinner/dance attended by mainly Jamaicans who live in New York City. It is promoted by Mair, a popular figure in Big Apple Diaspora circles.

The venue for the party is not announced until noon the previous day. Patrons and décor are dressed in white, with dinner and dancing taking place at 7 pm and after.

Some of the events Mair has organised include the Westchester Gala which has honoured celebrities like American actress Kerry Washington (of Scandal fame) whose mother is from St Elizabeth.

The Signature Society contributes part of the profits from Brooklyn All-White Popup Dinner Party to its main beneficiary, Food for the Poor, as well as local charities and organisations.
