Festival joy for RD Prominent
RD Prominent is pleased that the Jamaica Festival Song Competition is back on the raft of activities for the Jamaica 60th anniversary celebrations this year.
“Growing up in Port Antonio, Portland, I was exposed to hearing the Festival Songs on the radio and seeing the road shows. It was a bit disappointing that in our 60th year of Independence, we weren’t going to have a song to rock to as the Festival Song for the celebrations. Now that it’s going to be held, I can’t wait to hear what the songs will sound like,” RD Prominent told the Jamaica Observer.
He says seven-time Festival Song winner Eric Donaldson is his favourite singer.
“Land of My Birth and Cherry Oh Baby are two songs that resonate with Jamaicans and puts us in a festive mood. I hope that the song that wins this year will continue in that similar vein,” said RD Prominent.
Nearly a week after announcing that the Jamaica Festival Song Competition was off due to sub-par entries, Entertainment and Culture Minister Olivia “Babsy” Grange, on Tuesday, declared it was back on the calender of events.
Born Kavanic Sampson, RD Prominent has been doing music for the past two years. He got into music by chance.
“Music started for me after I was introduced to it by a producer and music engineer friend of mine. I have been a fan of music all my life but I only got into it professionally about two years now. Right now, I am promoting two singles, Won’t Lie, a track for the ladies and Rapidus,” he disclosed.
RD Prominent, who grew up listening to Sean Paul and Shaggy, hopes to one day achieve international success similar to theirs.
“I am bringing a different flow and a unique flavour musically. My music can be considered to be futuristic and diverse,” he added.
