Nourish Caribbean

NOURISH Caribbean Limited was founded by nutritionist Annalee Gray Brown and launched in October 2021. The venture, which helps both the unwell and well eat healthy, is now seven months old.

The business is an online nutrition consultancy found at nourishcaribbeanservices.com. According to Gray Brown, more and more individuals want to know the content of their meals and food, in general, in terms of nutritional value and how it might affect or improve their health, but many have reservations about seeking advice from nutritionists.

Gray Brown explained to the Jamaica Observer that she created the new portal also as she, “realised that there were not many healthy recipes online that authentically reflect Caribbean foods and flavours.”

Misgivings

She stated, “I also realised that people sometimes have misgivings about whether they should seek out professional nutrition guidance, so I wanted to create a nutrition consultancy where clients felt understood and supported and have the confidence that an evidence-based approach is incorporated in their nutrition management.”

Services now offered include nutrition consultations, meal planning guidance, monthly nutrition coaching, family cooking sessions, supermarket shopping tours customised for your nutrition needs and nutrition presentations.

The online site features 14 Fantastic Recipes with Turmeric e-book which is also available on the website.

Nourish Caribbean is staffed by four nutrition professionals who are Annalee Gray Brown (nutritionist), Asha-gaye Graham Thompson (dietitian), Kayon Brooks Robinson (associate nutritionist) and Yanique Rodgers (nutritionist).

Gray Brown explained, “Our team of Caribbean-based nutrition professionals and associates provide an online-based support system dedicated to supporting Caribbean people at home and abroad with evidence-based nutrition and related health information that reflects Caribbean culture.”

Anyone of Caribbean origin or descent will feel right at home with the meal suggestions and advice being given. The website also includes quizzes and calculators to facilitate an informal assessment of health risk, along with free recipes and educational resources designed to promote good health, Gray Brown said.

Gray Brown boasted, “We have a caring and empathetic approach and adjust to meet the needs, capabilities, and preferences of our clients. We were founded on the belief that everyone should have access to the resources that they need to attain their best quality of life.”

Most clients request a meal plan from Nourish Caribbean. However, Gray Brown shared, “after the initial consultation, we empower clients with information to support them with key meal planning skills without needing to pay for a meal plan, as for many clients, every day is different.” However, clients who prefer more structured meal planning guidance opt for a meal plan.

Nourish Caribbean offers three-day, seven-day, and 30-day meal plans. The nutritionists also provide free meal planning guidance on the website under a ‘eat healthy’ tab.

Although based in Jamaica, Nourish Caribbean targets and supports all Caribbean peoples at home and abroad.

The company head said, “We primarily support individuals and/or families aiming to lose or gain weight and those living with diabetes, polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS), hypertension and high cholesterol.
