S Hotel denies employee’s claim of discrimination
ST JAMES, Jamaica — S Hotel Jamaica on Sunday denied claims made by a disgruntled former employee who accused the Montego Bay hotel of discrimination in a June 4 incident which was captured on video and shared on social media.
According to claims made in the video by the employee, he was instructed to leave the property after serving a group of women, who later, on camera, confirmed that the employee was not flirting with them.
“Was I flirting or doing nothing a while ago?” the employee asked in the video to which the women responded “no”.
Accusing a man he referred to as the “boss” of being “racist”, the employee claimed that this method of dismissal was common for the establishment.
“That’s what he do (to) most people who work here. He just come and (you) hear ‘leave my property, go home, you don’t belong here,” said the former employee in the video.
Without going into the details surrounding the incident, the hotel denounced the accusations, labelling them as “false”.
“After carefully reviewing reports regarding an incident that occurred at S Hotel Jamaica in Montego Bay on June 4, 2022 between team members, one of whom became disgruntled, which involved hotel guests, we are aware of a smear campaign spreading on social media posted recently. We share this public statement denouncing these false accusations in which this former employee has made. He has sent his video to a blogger who continues to spread these vicious and harmful lies about our workforce, our team and community,” the hotel said in a statement released via social media.
It noted that S Hotel, Spanish Court Hotel and all of its entities do not tolerate any form of discrimination or harassment against any of its employees or guests.
“This probable assumption goes against our very core. We uphold our values in building a strong company culture of team members and we are committed to our team, our guests and community.
“One hundred per cent of our team members are Jamaican and every one of our employees are the backbone of our businesses, delivering unparalleled, excellent service, the very essence for which we are highly recognised,” the hotel said.
