United States Ambassador to Jamaica Nick Perry (left) opens a forum at the US Embassy in Kingston last Tuesday to mark Juneteenth, the June 19 federal holiday commemorating the end of slavery in the United States.
The forum was attended by more than 40 Jamaican high school students Ardenne High, Calabar High, Campion College, Convent of Mercy, Alpha, Mona High, Jamaica College, Kingston College, Papine High, St George’s College, St Hugh’s High, The Queen’s School for Girls, and Wolmer’s Boys, along with their teachers.
The forum featured embassy panellists (from left in top photo) Dominick Riley, US Postal Inspector Attaché; Tiffany Henderson, executive office manager; and Dolan Greenidge, country attaché, Drug Enforcement Administration.
United States President Joe Biden declared a Juneteenth a public holiday in 2021, the first new federal holiday since the creation of Martin Luther King Day in 1983.
In the photos, Ambassador Perry is seen addressing the students.
