Manning Cup draw completed for upcoming season
Thirty-seven schools have so far expressed an interest in participating in the 2022-2023 Inter-secondary Schools Sports Association (ISSA) Manning Cup competition.
The schools will play in seven groups of six except for Group E, which will have seven teams.
At a draw conducted at Wolmer’s Boys’ School on Tuesday, champions Kingston College were drawn in Group A alongside rivals St George’s College and Calabar High in what could easily be considered the ‘group of death’.
Group B features many-times champions Jamaica College and back-to-back Walker Cup champions St Catherine High.
Charlie Smith High and Tivoli High highlight Group C, while St Andrew Technical High School (STATHS), who seemingly overachieved last season, should make Group D their own.
Camperdown High, Wolmer’s Boys’ and Mona High are expected to mix it up in Group E in what should also be a very competitive group.
Meanwhile, Excelsior High and a vastly improved Kingston Technical will start favourites to emerge from Group F.
The full groups read:
Group A: Kingston College, Ardenne High, St George’s College, Eltham High, Calabar High and Oberlin High;
Group B: Jamaica College, St Catherine High, Meadowbrook High, St Jago High, Cedar Grove Academy and St Mary’s College;
Group C: Charlie Smith High, Tivoli High, Edith Dalton James High, Vauxhall High, Haile Selassie High, and Bridgeport High;
Group D: STATHS, Norman Manley High, Spanish Town High, Dunoon Park Technical, Jonathan Grant High, Tarrant High;
Group E: Mona High, Wolmer’s Boys’, Kingston High, Waterford High, Camperdown High, Hydel High and Papine High;
Group F: Excelsior High, Kingston Technical High, Inswood High, Jose Marti High, Campion College, Clan Carthy High.
Kingston College are the reigning Manning Cup and Olivier Shield champions, while St Catherine High were the only team to defend a title last season, when they won the Walker Cup for the second time ever.
