Confusion surrounds baby found wandering on busy roadway in St Catherine
KINGSTON, Jamaica — There is some confusion after a baby found wandering along a major roadway in St Catherine, was picked up and taken away by the police.
A video of the incident has hit social media, but the police in the St Catherine North Division say they are trying to find the officers who picked up the child.
Contacted a short while ago, an officer from the division’s Centre for the Investigations of Sexual Offences and Child Abuse, (CISOCA) said the police are aware of the incident and subsequent video.
He, however, said they are trying to find out where the child is as the officers who picked up the baby, have not reported to them.
In the video, a man was heard cursing after he stopped behind a baby that was almost in the middle of the road. Another motorist in front of him, behind whose vehicle the baby stood, exited and approached the child.
A passing police vehicle immediately stopped, and two policemen disembarked. One of the policemen took up the child and gave it to the other. They were going back into their vehicle when the video ended.
Several social media users have since launched a tirade on the baby’s mother, calling her careless, wicked and several other colourful adjectives.
