KINGSTON, Jamaica — Jamaican singer Naomi Cowan has voiced the theme song for The 6ixty tournament, the new, fast-paced format of cricket, which will commence on August 24 in St Kitts & Nevis.

The 6ixty Anthem was written and produced by Cowan in collaboration with Skorch Bunit and Cool Blaze under her independent label, 7th C Records.

“I’ve always believed that the Caribbean has given the world the best in music & sport for many years. So, it’s truly a privilege to be able to fuse my music with this new format of cricket. This is truly something to celebrate and I am excited to see where this partnership takes us. Having been part of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) family since 2019, it’s only up from here,” she said

Cowan’s profile continues to grow globally with songs like Paradise Plum and Climbing. Kingston Traffic is her latest single, arranged by Cleveland “Clevie” Browne and produced by her dad, Tommy Cowan.

In a release on Wednesday, the CEO of Caribbean Premier League (CPL) said: “We are delighted to have one of the most talented artists from the Caribbean performing the theme song for this new event. We are certain that this song will become synonymous with the tournament and also gain wider recognition as an entertaining piece of music.”

6ixty, which is a collaborative effort between Cricket West Indies (CWI) and CPL, will feature 60 legal deliveries in each innings with only six wickets per team. Additionally, cricket fans will be able to vote for the timing of a “Mystery Free Hit” in which a batter cannot be dismissed by the bowler.

There will be six men’s teams of which Jamaican cricketer Chris Gayle will act as host, There will also be three women’s teams. The coveted trophy was named in Gayle’s honour—the Universe Boss Trophy.
