Sagicor pledges an additional $500,000 if Dunbeholden lifts JPL title
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Sagicor Group Jamaica has pledged to award their team in the Jamaica Premier League – Dunbeholden FC – with an additional prize of $500,000 if they win the Championship.
This will be added to the coveted $2.5-million cash prize, championship trophy, and other awards that are up for grabs from the Premier League finals on Sunday.
Mark Chisholm, executive vice president, Individual Life Sales & Distribution, Sagicor Life said Sagicor is ecstatic that their team has made it this far in the competition, and has every confidence that they will lift their first trophy this year.
“Dunbeholden FC has shown immense fortitude, discipline and determination since joining the league in 2018, and as newcomers, they have made their presence felt,” Chisholm said.
“That spirit is something that we admire here at Sagicor and we are pleased to offer this incentive because we want them to go into the final knowing that their sponsor is cheering them on.”
Dunbeholden will play against Harbour View in their first-ever final game.
Regardless of the outcome of the match, Sagicor has committed to continuing its relationship with the Dunbeholden team and community.
Team manager Paul Christie was elated at the pledge from Sagicor. He expressed that it had lifted the team’s spirit even higher after their nail-biting defeat over Cavalier in their second semi-final match on Wednesday.
“We’re extremely happy to have Sagicor as our partner in this competition and very thankful for the promise of $500,000 when we win the match on Sunday,” Christie said. “We feel very privileged that Sagicor chose us – a relatively unknown team – when they could have chosen any other team to associate their brand with, and we will make them proud because they have always been there for us.”
Sagicor has sponsored this year’s Premier League to the tune of $6 million. The Group has also directly contributed to the Dunbeholden team by providing gears.
This is the second consecutive year Sagicor has sponsored the JPL.
