KINGSTON, Jamaica — Jamaica reported 143 new cases of COVID-19 and six fatalities on Saturday, July 2, according to the latest statistics from the Ministry of Health and Wellness.

This pushed the total number of cases of the virus since the start of the pandemic to 143,240 and the death toll to 3,140.

Of the newly reported cases, there were 76 females and 67 males with ages ranging from 49 days to 93 years.

The cases were recorded in Kingston and St Andrew (44), St Catherine (33), Clarendon (two), St James (12), St Thomas (three), Westmoreland (seven), St Elizabeth (two), Manchester (one), Portland (three), St Mary (15) and St Ann (21).

Trelawny and Hanover were the only parishes to record zero cases.

Meanwhile, the latest fatalities are:

A 96-year-old man from St Elizabeth, whose death was recorded in June 2022;

A 53-year-old woman from Kingston & St Andrew, whose death was recorded in January 2022;

A 75-year-old woman from Kingston & St Andrew, whose death was recorded in January 2022;

A 75-year-old woman from Kingston and St Andrew, whose death was recorded in January 2022 and was under investigation;

A 35-year-old woman from St James, whose death was recorded in September 2021; and

A 49-year-old man from St Elizabeth, whose death was recorded in September 2021.

The country also recorded 21 new recoveries, bringing the total number of recoveries to 91,128.

The positivity rate for the latest round of testing was 20 per cent.

There are 97 people hospitalised, four of them critically ill.

There are 1,361 confirmed active cases on the island.
