Roots singer Everton Blender has seen renewed interest in his career since rappers French Montana and Harry Fraud sampled his 1996 hit Ghetto People Song. As he prepares to return to the stage, a New Jersey promoter is expecting big things for his comeback show.

The veteran artiste is scheduled to perform July 10 at The Cave, a club in Paterson, New Jersey. Promoter Kenton Dave Peters is excited about the event.

“Blender is back in the news and trending globally. Although he had been in the limelight for many years because of the many hits he created, some of the fans who listen to French Montana may not have heard about him before the sampling of Ghetto People Song,” said Peters.

Morocco-born French Montana, a protégé of Diddy, and American producer/rapper Harry Fraud, sampled Ghetto People Song for their song Higher, which was released on June 27.

Everton Blender’s song was one of several released on the La La Bella rhythm produced by Tony Rebel. It was a strong seller in Jamaica and reggae circles abroad, along with Rebel’s If Jah Is Standing by my Side and Are You Satisfied by Ras Shiloh, other singles on the La La Bella.

The Cave, which has a capacity of 300 patrons, has hosted a number of dancehall artistes, including Sister Nancy, Round Head, and Lecturer.

Everton Blender, who is from Clarendon, rose to prominence during the 1990s as part of the Rastafarian movement which revived ‘consciousness’ in dancehall music. That synergy included Tony Rebel, Garnet Silk, Yasus Afari, and Kulcha Knox.

In addition to Ghetto People Song, his hits include Lift up Your Head, Family Man, and Create a Sound.
