One-stop medical centre opens in St Ann’s Bay

MONTEGO BAY, Jamaica – Mayor of St Ann’s Bay, Councillor Sydney Stewart, has welcomed the opening of the town’s new multi-care medical centre as a game-changer in the provision of comprehensive and accessible health services to residents.

According to a release, the Bravo Dental and Medical centre, operated by husband-and-wife team, Dr Alexandre Young and Dr Ruth-Ann Leveridge-Young, is the first facility in the parish to offer a suite of dental and medical services under one roof.

“This is very good for the parish capital and by extension, the entire St Ann,” Mayor Stewart said. “Having all these services under one roof will eliminate a lot of stress and persons having to go to numerous places to get the care that they need,” he added, noting that it was particularly beneficial to elderly persons.

He expressed confidence that “those in charge” of the facility will deliver on their promise of good customer service and compassionate care, noting that anything less would be unacceptable.

Dr Leveridge-Young said that the centre will provide holistic, comprehensive health care that not only treats conditions of the teeth and mouth “but the whole person”.

“It is basically a one-stop-shop medical facility, which aims to revolutionise the practice of dentistry and medicine, with a focus on holistic medical dentistry and bringing the tender, love and care (TLC) to health care,” she said.

She noted that the facility will provide comfortable, and stress-free care that combines the art and science of dentistry with the fundamentals of medicine.

“We have long recognised that many systemic diseases show up in the mouth and that conditions presented as toothaches, for example, may be reflective of neurological issues, which we are trained to identify, and can then make appropriate referrals to our in-house panel of specialists.

“With a unique focus on everyone, our team seeks to dispel the fears that inhibit persons from embracing positive health-seeking behaviours, or from visiting health care professionals,” she added.

The dental practice will offer general and cosmetic dentistry including normal and surgical extractions; crowns, bridges, and dentures; cleanings, fillings and whitening; root canal treatment, among other things.

A unique feature of the practice is the provision of on-call mobile emergency dental care.

Dr Leveridge-Young and her husband, who will offer the dental services, have worked at the Kingston Public Hospital, as well as in several private practices.
