Transformed Life Church using series of sermons to tackle NCDs
TRANSFORMED Life Church (TLC) is moving to bringing greater clarity to the maxim that, “Living well may be more about health and less about wealth,” through a series of sermons which began on Sunday June 26.
The series is being staged in conjunction with the Ministry of Health and Wellness as part efforts to rein in the epidemic of noncommunicable diseases (NCDs) affecting Jamaicans.
Director of health promotions and education in the Ministry of Health & Wellness, Takese Foga pointed to the challenges facing Jamaica during the launch of TLC’s ‘Living Well’ series of sermons.
“Violence is alarming, road accidents are many… yet the silent pandemic remains the noncommunicable diseases (NCDs) — diabetes, hypertension, asthma and others. Seven out of 10 people in Jamaica die from a noncommunicable disease yearly,” said Foga.
These statistics are very likely represented within the Church, and this pushed the leadership of TLC to be proactive in helping to offer solutions.
The Living Well series of sermons will run from June 26 to July 24, 2022 at the church, located at The Ambassadors at 63 Hagley Park Road near Half-Way-Tree in St Andrew.
The theme of whole health will be discussed each Sunday during the 8:30 am and 11:30 am services.
Upcoming weeks will feature professionals in the health and wellness industry highlighting their services and products, and will focus on other aspects of health such as mental and physical health.
Senior pastor at TLC, Dwight Fletcher noted in his opening sermon that, “Modern living has taught us that if you’re really going to have a satisfying life you must have good physical health… then COVID-19 has taught us that you’re not really healthy if you’re not mentally healthy. Science has now started to recognise that our health even has a spiritual dimension.”
Foga recommended annual, age-appropriate health checks and encouraged the congregation to make shifts in diet, exercise and other activities.
The health ministry also had a booth at the church where congregants completed challenges such as squats, push-ups or jumping jacks to win prizes.
