CLARENDON, Jamaica – Councillors at the Clarendon Municipal Corporation have expressed condolences to the family of the employee who lost his life under tragic circumstances at the Kingston Wharves.

Scot Bamberry, who was employed as a stevedore at the company for just over a year, reportedly fell while carrying out functions related to his duties at the Kingston Wharves on Tuesday. His body was fished from the waters Thursday afternoon.

People’s National Party (PNP) Councillor for the Hayes Division, Scean Barnswell, in expressing his sympathies said it was a sad day for the parish.

“We have lost another bright star where his dream was stopped very short. That is young Scot Bamburry from Wood Hall. Many persons would have remembered him from the story of having completed his studies at CMU [Caribbean Maritime University] and couldn’t get any job in his field so he did some ad-hoc work. He got some help and was employed at the Kingston Wharves and he lost his life in a bizarre way and it’s regrettable that a young man who was aspiring to greatness, his dream was stopped short,” he told his colleagues at Thursday’s sitting of the Clarendon Municipal Corporation’s council meeting, while he made an appeal for a thorough investigation to be done.

“It leaves me to wonder, was he wearing protective gear and what happened? I know the family members want closure and so Mr Chairman, with your permission, I think we should observe a moment of silence, not only for Scot but for the victims of the massacre in Cocoa Piece. I think the parish is in mourning and I think we need to observe a moment of silence in honour of the persons who have lost their lives in a very tragic way,” Barnswell said.

The committee agreed.
