#WorldChamps: All three Jamaicans advance to men’s 100m semis
EUGENE, Oregon – Rising sprint sensation, Oblique Seville, will lead the three Jamaican men into the semi-finals of the 100 metres at the World Championships in Eugene, Oregon.
Seville took command of Heat Four of the event to win in 9.93 seconds ahead of Tokyo Olympic Games champion Lamont Marcell Jacobs of Italy.
Jacobs clocked a season’s best 10.04 seconds for second, while Ryuichiro Sakai of Japan rounded out the top three in 10.12 seconds.
Meanwhile, the fastest Jamaican man over the event this year, Yohan Blake (10.04) finished second in Heat Five behind Letsile Tebogo of Botswana, who ran a massive personal best and World Under-20 record of 9.93 seconds.
Ackeem Blake, who contested the 100 metres in Heat One, had to fight off a fast-finishing, Raymond Ekevwo, of Nigeria (10.17) to safely punch his ticket to the semi-finals of the event. Blake finished in 10.15 seconds to take the second spot, while the race was won by Marvin Bracey of the United States in a time of 10.05 seconds.
The semi-finals of the men’s 100 metres will be contested tomorrow, July 16 at 8:00 pm Jamaica time.
