GEOMETRIC: FROM GHANA TO JAMAICA

Handcrafted apparel and accessories brand Geometric brings functional design and bold prints from Ghana to Jamaica. The artisanal brand began serving its customers via e-commerce and pop-up markets throughout Ghana and the United States. After the success of the first store opening in Accra in 2021, Geometric is keen on bringing its fun, vibrant style to customers in Jamaica.

Geometric sources its textiles and materials from Ghana, Burkina Faso or Mali and handcrafts the designs with trained and skilled artisans in Ghana. The brand brings to life the stories of the artisans and individuals responsible for production. With fast fashion and excessive consumerism negatively affecting the environment, the goal is to support/create more conscious consumers by closing the gap in understanding between production and consumer.

“I’m excited to introduce Geometric to Jamaica because so much of this brand was created as a result of my experiences in Jamaica in my youth. The first pieces I designed while living abroad in Ghana reflect what I loved most in my mother’s and grandmother’s closets: Jamaican craftsmanship and design,” shared founder Morgan Kret, a development worker-turned-fashion designer who hails from Washington, DC but spent her childhood growing up between Jamaica and Washington.

In a quick chat with the Style Observer (SO) ahead of the pop-up, Kret noted that she’ll have tote bags, gold-plated brass jewellery, and other small accessories like mini clutches. “For clothing,” she continued, “I will have kimonos and tunic dresses, as well as a small range of menswear (West African print short sets).

“Our kimonos, tote bags, and men’s shorts are perfect [for] either wearing out to a cocktail party or for a day on the beach. I think the versatility of the collection will resonate with Jamaican consumers because the bright, fun tropical wear can be dressed up or dressed down… the pieces have a deeper purpose in connecting West African and Jamaican design,” she concluded.

SO was also told that the newest collection, coined OBIAA, meaning “everybody” in Twi, is all about inclusivity not only in culture and identity, but also body shapes and forms.

Geometric will co-host an in-person pop-up with the handcrafted Jamaican brand Haveli in Kingston on July 23 and 24 at 11 Devon Road. Global customers can find the collection available online at www.buygeometric.com.

Opening hours will be:

Saturday, July 23

10:00 am to 6:00 pm

Haveli Last Sundays w/ Geometric

Sunday, July 24

12:00 pm to 4:00 pm
