#World Champs: Jamaican women dominate 100m Heats
EUGENE, Oregon- The Jamaican women scheduled to contest the heats of the 100 metres have all advanced to the semi-finals of the event at the Oregon World Championships.
The defending 100 metres world champion and fastest woman in the world this year, Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, made it look easy, as she clocked a time of 10.87 seconds to secure the win in heat two. Daryll Neita of Great Britain finished second in a season’s best of 10.95 seconds, while Germany’s Lückenkemper took the third spot in 11.09 seconds.
The Olympic 100 metres bronze medallist, Shericka Jackson, controlled the race from the start to cruise to a time of 11.02 seconds for the win in heat one. She crossed the line ahead of Zoe Hobbs, who ran 11.08 seconds for a new area record. Anthonique Strachan of the Bahamas also recorded a time of 11.08 seconds to round out the top three.
Meanwhile, double Olympic champion, Elaine Thompson-Herah, was no different from her compatriots, as she claimed a comfortable victory in heat three with 11.15 seconds, while Kemba Nelson (11.10) booked her place in the semi-finals with a third place finish in heat four.
The semi-finals of the women’s 100 metres is scheduled for tomorrow, July 17 at 7:33pm Jamaica time.
