#WorldChamps: Russell, Clayton, Salmon, through to women’s 400M Hurdles semis
EUGENE, Oregon – All three Jamaican women who contested the heats of the 400 metres hurdles have safely advanced to the semi-finals of the event in Eugene, Oregon.
Three-times Commonwealth champion, Janieve Russell, held off a fast-finishing Shamier Little of the United States, to cross the line in the top position in heat two. Russell won her heat in 54.52 seconds, while Little ran 54.77 seconds.
Meanwhile, Shiann Salmon, who finished in the runner-up spot in the event at the Jamaica trials, lined up in heat four in which she finished second in a time of 54.91 seconds. Heat four was won by the 2016 Rio Olympic champion, Dalilah Muhammad of the United States, in 54.45 seconds.
Additionally, Rushelle Clayton, who claimed the bronze medal in the event at the 2019 Doha World Championships, took the fourth automatic spot in heat five in a time of 54.99 seconds.
The semi-final of the women’s 400 metres hurdles is scheduled for tomorrow, July 20 at 8:15pm Jamaica time.
