FLASHBACK — Ackeem Blake
Ackeem Blake, the St James native who attended Merlene Ottey High in Hanover, wasn’t necessarily a star as a schoolboy, but was considered a very promising athlete by savvy local track and field followers. His best 100m race in 2021 was 10.35 seconds, but in June of this year he grabbed attention with a 9.95 clocking in New York. He lowered his personal best to 9.93 seconds to finish third at the National Championships later that month. Blake reached the semi-finals of the men’s 100m at the ongoing World Athletics Championships in Eugene, Oregon.
