#World Champs: Jamaica’s McLeod, McPherson advance to Women’s 400m final
EUGENE, Oregon – Candice McLeod and Stephanie-Ann McPherson will seek a podium finish in the final of the women’s 400 meters at the Oregon World Championships.
Tokyo Olympics finalist McLeod, stormed to a season’s best time of 50.05 seconds to claim the second automatic spot in semi-final one. McLeod crossed the line behind 2016 Rio Olympic champion, Shaunae Miller-Uibo of the Bahamas, who clocked a season’s best time of 49.55 seconds.
Meanwhile, the multiple national champion, Stephanie-Ann McPherson, placed third in semi-final two in 50.56 seconds. McPherson advanced as the fastest non-automatic qualifier.
However, Charokee Young, who recorded the second fastest time over the distance this year, finished fifth in semi-final three in 51.41 seconds. Young will not move on to the final of the event.
McLeod and McPherson will face the starter in the final of the women’s 400 metres on Friday, July 22 at 9:15pm Jamaica time.
