Runaway Algo primed for return in Eros Trophy
EROS, regarded as one of the best to ever grace the track, will be well represented by a talented field of seven runners set to compete in the three year olds and upward Open Allowance/Graded Stakes named in his honour going over 7 furlongs (1,400m), on Saturday, July 30, at Caymanas Park.
Below is the analysis of the runners and their chances of winning this event which carries a total purse of $1.5 million.
1. RUNAWAY ALGO (USA): 3 ch c by Algorithms – Missunify) – An improving foreigner who lost out by a neck to I’ve Got Magic in the Seeking My Dream trophy over 7 ½ furlongs (1,500m) on May 22. That was Runaway Ago‘s first run at the Open Allowance level. Now going half-furlong shorter and working well for the Eros, Runaway Algo can turn the tables on I’ve Got Magic and beat the rest of the field as well, plus the distance of seven furlongs is perfect for this foreigner.
2. KING ARTHUR: (5 b g by Natural Selection – Geisha Art) – Seems to have lost his rhythm in recent times after winning at six furlongs on May 14. King Arthur, based on current form, cannot get any votes here where winning is concerned but can spring a surprise when ready.
3. MONEY MONSTER: (5 b g by Casual Trick – She’s Traditional) – Finding his way in this grouping. Will get valuable experience in efforts to come.
4. EROY (USA): (5 b h by Khozan – Golden Bucket) – Found himself back in this grade after a commanding 12¼-length win in the recent Hubert Bartley Memorial Trophy over 7½ furlongs in Overnight Allowance. Then Eroy made one move to win in a time of 1:31.0, which speaks volumes of his ability. Eroy may need to find more to win here but should run well, nonetheless. He is not unfamiliar with this grouping.
5. I’VE GOT MAGIC (USA): (4 b c by Fast Anna – Lil Miss Richie) – Below par effort in his last two runs. I’ve Got Magic was a winner prior, beating Runaway Algo over 7 ½ furlongs. If he can reproduce that effort then I’ve Got Magic can surely win the Eros.
6. I AM FRED (USA): (4 b g by Golden Lad – Happy Hailey) – Talented runner who should be comfortable at seven furlongs. I Am Fred will not be with the early pace, as he will stalk before making his move in the final two furlongs.
7. CALCULUS: (4 b c by Sensational Slam – Trinket Box) – Finished second behind the top-rated Mahogany in the inaugural Clovis Metcalfe Cup over 7 ½ furlongs 28 days ago. Calculus should not find this trip too sharp and thus another good showing is expected from him even while allowing weight to all rivals. Note, Calculus races with the visor on.
