Gov’t eyeing southwestern Jamaica for third city — Holness
ST ELIZABETH, Jamaica— Prime Minister Andrew Holness says the southwestern end of Jamaica is being considered for the country’s third city.
“The Government has undertaken a plan for the development of a new city in Jamaica and we are looking at the southern end of the island,” Holness said during his address at the Black River Day celebration on Friday.
“It appears to be that we are heading in the south western end of the island. I’m not saying any more,” Holness added.
He said the government has plans that will improve urban development.
“It seems that all the features coincide in this end of the island. I’m not saying it could be here (Black River) it could be somewhere else, but we are planning for the south coast of the island particularly the south western coast of the island,” said Holness.
“There is great energy here. The people here have a certain character. They have a certain dignity and definition about themselves. There are natural resources here which we can develop, so in planning for the next 60 years, we have some big plans for this area that will improve your urban planning, that will improve your infrastructure and that will make your area a place of choice to live, work, raise families and retire in paradise,” the prime minister added.
