I FEEL LIKE A WINNER!
CAMERON...I'm really happy for my performance even if it wasn't my best in terms of the distance but I feel how I prepped myself to come out here and deliver a fourth place is definitely like a win for me.

I FEEL LIKE A WINNER!

BIRMINGHAM, England — Shot put finalist Lloydricria Cameron was left satisfied with her efforts after a fourth-place finish at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.

Cameron registered a distance of 17.62m to finish behind Canada’s Sarah Mitton, 19.03m, who won the gold with her last throw; Jamaica’s Danniel Thomas-Dodd, 18.98m, and New Zealand’s Maddison-Lee Wesche, 18.84m.

She shared that although she wanted to get closer to her personal best mark of 18.33m, which she posted in 2021, she was pleased with the performance and particularly how she prepared herself coming into the event.

“I am very excited. I’m really happy for my performance even if it wasn’t my best in terms of the distance but I feel how I prepped myself to come out here and deliver a fourth place is definitely like a win for me, so I am satisfied,” Cameron told the Jamaica Observer following Wednesday’s final at Alexander Stadium.

She pointed to recent changes to her coaching set-up and other personal adjustments have served her growth and development well and is looking forward to using her experience in Birmingham to push on as she looks to make her first World Championships team next year in Budapest.

“I’ve made plenty of other senior teams but I think particularly this year, it’s a big difference because of how my season started off, having to get a new coach and things like that and move. So I definitely feel that the experience I had this year was a big growth for me mentally, personally, physically and just overall in general,” said Cameron, who competed at the Tokyo Olympics where she failed to advance past the qualifying round.

She added that the Games experience has taught her to always be prepared to give her best regardless of the circumstances.

“No matter the time or the day, just come out and always be prepared to compete, no matter what’s going on around you. That is definitely my biggest takeaway from this experience at the Commonwealth Games,” Cameron shared.
