KINGSTON, Jamaica – Wray & Nephew White Overproof Rum has announced a three-year $14 million sponsorship deal with Jamaica’s senior netball team, the Sunshine Girls, and Netball Jamaica, the governing body for netball in the country.

In a release announcing the deal on Sunday, the rum maker said the partnership will be an initial three-year relationship, with an option for renewal thereafter.

It comes against the background of calls for public and private sector support to match the successes of the Sunshine Girls, who have consistently performed well on the global stage and will play for the gold medal at the Commonwealth Games later Sunday.

President of Netball Jamaica, Tricia Robinson expressed gratitude to Wray & Nephew White Overproof Rum for partnering with the Sunshine Girls, while Pavel Smith, Marketing Manager, J Wray & Nephew Limited, said his team is honoured to team up with the Girls and their federation.

“The Sunshine Girls have consistently showcased to the world, what true Jamaican character and spirit looks like by Jaminating their competitors against all odds,” Smith said in the release.

Wray & Nephew said the $14 million cash support over the course of three years, will go towards gears, local transportation, international travel, and other recurring expenses for the Sunshine Girls.

For the brand, each of the $14 million in cash support represents the 14 parishes of Jamaica, which mirrors Wray Rum’s currently available Parish Collection, to mark Jamaica’s 60th Independence, the release stated.

Jamaica will face Australia at 2:30 pm Jamaica time Sunday for the netball gold medal at the Commonwealth Games. The Sunshine Girls scored a historic victory over the Diamonds during group play and will be looking to repeat the feat in the finals.
