Like many boys who emulate their fathers, up-and-coming artiste Visionary Gad is continuing what his father started many years ago.

The young artiste, given name Dwight Bailey, told OBSERVER ONLINE that his father is an instrumentalist who exposed him to the art at a young age. This caused Visionary Gad to develop a love for music, however, he veered off the path and ventured into a different form of musical expression.

“My father is a drummer so me usually go watch him with his band when them perform and that kinda spark me interest at a young age. Then me realise that I have the talent to create rhymes and me start to follow through with it. Unfortunately, I don’t play drums; I went the other route of singing to make my music,” Visionary Gad, who previously went by the alias Danbokidd said.

He added that he chose dancehall music and has stuck to the more authentic sound of the genre instead of carrying on the new sound that many have termed ‘Trap-dancehall’. This decision, the artiste said, is one he made because of the type of music he was raised on.

“Well, personally, I’m not really a big fan of ‘Trap-dancehall’. At my age, while I am not so old, the dancehall weh me grow up on, a that me love and a that me used to even though nothing is wrong with the new dancehall,” the 25-year-old artiste said.

“The topic that them cover and how it is portrayed, me don’t really on all of that either. Me like sing about experiences, party-type songs and regular topics. It is not like the trap music, I wouldn’t want to put myself in that bracket, even though a modern time now and a lot of people doing trap,” he added.

Though he has elected not to go the popular route, Visionary Gad stated that his music is still a favourite among people as he has received positive feedback. One fan favourite is ‘Pandemic’ which was released in November 2020, months after COVID-19 cases were discovered in Jamaica.

“People really gravitated to a song called ‘Pandemic’. It is a dancehall song that was released during that time, and you know people like songs that are directly related to what is happening, so that’s probably why them like it. It is a gun song though, but it has a vibe and people like the flow and lyrics and me get compliments on the video as well,” Visionary Gad told OBSERVER ONLINE.

When asked about his musical journey, Visionary Gad disclosed that he started doing music at the age of 14, and while it has been a great experience so far, he stated that his decade-long career has not been without issues.

“It has been going good so far but it has its challenges. You know not everything can be taught, some things you have to learn on your own in order to advance. So that has basically been me since being in the industry; just learning as I go, and working through the challenges,” he said.

“The challenges I am facing personally is the level of quality that I would like to see in my music; quality producing, quality recording; distribution and promotion as well, but as I said, I am learning along the way and figuring out how to improve things,” he continued.

One of the improvements that the artiste has recently embarked on is a name change. He explained that he is currently going through a metamorphosis and Visionary Gad is more of the person he is now as he does not see himself as a “kid” anymore.

“Visionary Gad seem more marketable and more mature and I am changing so I am changing my name along with it,” he stated.

The artiste’s catalog can be found on YouTube, and streaming platforms such as iTunes and Spotify under both names as he goes through the change process.
