Smooth flow of traffic for back to school – Police Commish
As some schools across the island reopened their doors for the 2022-2023 academic year, members of the Jamaica Constabulary Force were out in their numbers to ensure that traffic flowed smoothly in the Corporate Area.
Commissioner of Police, Major General Antony Anderson, told OBSERVER ONLINE that cops would continue to maintain a presence in the coming days.
“I’ve been listening, also, to what has been happening around the country. I guess the reopening of schools, however, not everybody is back yet and classes will reopen for some later on this week,” he said.
“We had our teams out early to ensure that there’s a smooth flow of persons and traffic and that’s what seems to be happening so far,” he continued.
Meanwhile, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Gary McKenzie, made an appeal to the island’s taxi operators regarding some of the illegal practices that they have been displaying during the day.
He added that the necessary measures will be taken against those who do not wish to comply with the respective road codes.
“I really want to appeal to the public passenger operatives. Already we are seeing some practices that we are not going to tolerate with, where they are stopping on the roadways and setting down passengers. That is not something we can contend with, and, we will do something about it,” he said.
Anderson and McKenzie said they expect that traffic will increase next Monday when all schools are expected to reopen.
