Vows: Their Path To Love

“True love stories never have endings” is a quote attributed to American writer Richard Bach, and Tuesday Style Vows (TSV) reckons Sheldon Maragh and Felicia Drummond would concur!

“Sheldon and I met during our tenure at UTech. He was a student in the Faculty of Business, whilst I was in Education. We were at that point mere friends as I was in a relationship… After university, we would catch up from time to time on WhatsApp,” related Felicia. They would reconnect a few years later at Sheldon’s sister’s graduation.

When the stars align there is no feigning indifference to destiny. Sheldon’s sister was graduating from St Hugh’s High School for Girls, where Felicia taught. He recognised her son, Carter from her WhatsApp posts and sent her a WhatsApp message. Graduation formalities over, he approached her. There was some apprehension as he took her left hand to check if she was married. She was not! He decided to “shoot his shot” and they started dating.

“On Christmas Eve 2021 I was told to wear something nice for a date to Strawberry Hill hotel. A kind of sixth sense told me something was afoot. I was on edge the entire evening…anticipating… but the proposal never came.

I slept the entire way home. When we got home, he asked me to follow him to an empty room upstairs. To my surprise, written with tealight candles and garnished with petals were the words “Will U Marry Me?”. There was no hesitation. I said, “Yes!”

Six months later, on Thursday, July 7, Sheldon and Felicia exchanged wedding vows at their well-appointed St Andrew home. Ten/10 Events and Rentals principal Tenique Gayle and her team who handled the décor used shades of dusty pink and navy blue to bring about the rustic theme.

Awaiting his bride at the altar was Sheldon, wearing a dusty pink suit by local designer Cavell McDermott of Levac Designs.

Dan & Shay’s Speechless signalled Felicia’s arrival on the arm of her mum Yvonne Drummond. She made a pretty picture in a sweetheart neckline gown with ruffled tiers. Her bouquet comprised white roses, pink carnations, and baby’s breath.

Pastor Napoleon Black was the officiant.

Vows sealed with a kiss, the bridal party recessed to the lyrics of Romain Virgo’s Good Woman and Rvssian and Shenseea’s You’re The One I Love.

The reception which followed thereafter was described as intimate and heart-warming by the newly-weds. Master of ceremonies Jermaine “DJ Will” Williamson with his easy banter kept guests engaged throughout the lively proceedings. The bridal party danced their way in to Ding Dong’s Happiness, followed by the newly-weds who selected Patoranking’s My Woman, My Everything featuring Wande Coal for their grand entrance.

The groom’s mother, Julet Whyte, blessed the sumptuous dinner catered by family friend Johnoy Matthie. Dinner was followed by heartfelt toasts from the matron of honour and bride’s sister Ruth Jeffery, the best man and groom’s cousin Dwight Grant, among other guests, and the unveiling and cutting of the three-tiered wedding cake by the groom’s aunt Claudette Campbell.

The newly-weds opened the dance floor to a mix of Three Times A Lady by The Commodores, Adorn by Miguel featuring Wiz Khalifa, and Spoil You by Alkaline.

The vibrant music of DJ Will and his team later brought the evening to a formidable close.

Mr & Mrs Sheldon Maragh departed soon after for their honeymoon at Secrets Wild Orchid Montego Bay.
