Had it lasted…
Dear Editor,
Some people will say this is in poor taste — and probably it is — but I have to get it off my chest.
For a long time in my youth I harboured the ultimate dream of the Queen of Hearts Diana becoming the Queen of Jamaica.
Because at the time I could not have fathomed so much talk of being a republic, I thought there were only two things that could stand against my dream — death and dishonour.
Both occurred.
Dishonour led to the break-up of the marriage between Prince Charles and Diana, and later her death put paid to all hopes of reconciliation and my dream.
But I can’t help but pine after the ambition — now a fairy tale — that Queen Elizabeth II would leave the throne and my prefered couple would succeed her.
Oh, for an alternate universe!
But The Queen is dead, long live the King… and Queen Consort Camilla.
