MONTEGO BAY, St James — Javel Clarke wants his second and final year representing Frome Technical to be memorable, and he knows he will be one of the senior players called on when the time comes.

With the departure of a number of players from the team that qualified for the second round of both the daCosta Cup and the Ben Francis Cup, Clarke, who scored four goals last season, says they must push on from what they achieved in the previous campaign.

“We hope to build on the foundation we set last year,” he told the Jamaica Observer after scoring during his team’s 2-2 draw against Cornwall College in a preseason friendly in Montego Bay on Wednesday.

“I plan to work much harder so I can execute better,” he said,

Winning a second daCosta Cup title for the western Westmoreland-based school, he said, was the aim.

“We must work harder and be a team, listen to the coach, and try to have fun,” he said.

“This team can do much better than last year; we fell short because of some indiscipline that crept in. This team is more focused and they also want to do well.”

Clarke understands that while football is a team sport he has a big role to play as — given this is his final year — he has to make an impact.

“I want to move on after this season,” he said.

“I would like to play football overseas; whether in college or in the professional leagues, any one [of them] will be good for me.”
