KSAFA Campari Championship and Major League semis begin today
The first set of semi-finals of the KSAFA Campari Championship and Major League competition will be played on Thursday, while the second set of games will be played on Sunday at Stadium East Field, weather permitting.
The Finals are set for Sunday, October 2, at Stadium East.
Today, Maxfield Park FC will play Mountain View FC in the Major League semis at 6 pm, while Real Mona will play Boys’ Town in the Championship at 8 pm.
On Sunday, Maverley/Hughenden FC will play New Kingston FC at 5 pm in the Major League while Meadforest FC will play Barbican FC at 7 pm in the Championship.
Gillroy Allison, head coach of Maxfield Park, thinks his team has all the elements to advance to the final and is hoping that his players will execute today.
“It just comes down to proper execution of the things we have done in practice, both offensively and defensively. I believe we definitely will be in the finals.”
Jahmai Pettigrew, head coach of Mountain View FC is in a confident mood as well, ahead of what promises to be a cracking semifinal.
“We played them in the first round and drew 1-1 in a competitive game. We need to be more assertive in midfield against them and once we get midfield dominance, we can use our flank players to create some opportunities. It should be a good encounter,” he promised.
Pettigrew says that his boys have been getting it right in the most important area of the pitch in the latter stages of the season and believes that will be the key to success for his team.
“I don’t know how much they have improved since we played them last, but I know Mountain View has improved in terms of our attacking prowess. We have been scoring goals, in the last two games – five and six. We are getting it right in front of goal at the right time of the season.”
Head coach of Boys Town, Leon Hardware says that his team is motivated by their underdog status going into the semi-final. They were soundly beaten by Mona earlier in the season, but he is hoping to right the wrongs of that encounter and book a spot in the final.
“We are going into the game as the underdogs, but we are going all out for the win. We made a few mistakes in defence when we played them and lost 0-3 earlier in the season, so we have to be better defensively, and we need to put away our chances when we get them,” Hardware continued.
The gates open at 4 pm at the Stadium East today and the cost of admission is $1000.
