Special Olympics Int’l to donate US$50k to Special Olympics Jamaica

KINGSTON, Jamaica — Special Olympics International will contribute US$50,000 to Special Olympics Jamaica to aid the latter in future initiatives.

Speaking at a press conference Wednesday at the Office of the Police Commissioner in Kingston, Special Olympics International’s Director of Global Education Haylie Wrubel Bernacki said at least 4,000 Jamaicans will benefit from the donation as the organisation hopes to create a “unified generation that chooses to include and celebrate one’s differences.”

She also expressed that Special Olympics International is pleased with the work being done regarding the Special Olympics community in Jamaica.

“I am delighted to be here with you today to recognise the tremendous work you’ve done in Jamaica, Special Olympics International is so proud,” said Bernacki.

Bernacki also lauded sponsors and contributors that continually provide assistance to Special Olympics Jamaica.

“I want to extend my appreciation to everyone here in Jamaica that made this partnership possible,” she said.

Among the notable benefactors and sponsors represented at the press conference were the Ministry of Information, Youth, Sports and Culture, the Jamaica Constabulary Force, Digicel Jamaica, the Jamaica Olympic Association, Jamaica Football Federation, and the Lions Club.
