Tropical Strom Ian could still produce heavy rainfall, thunderstorms- Met Service
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Although tropical storm conditions are no longer expected across Jamaica, the Meteorological Service of Jamaica says Tropical Storm Ian could still produce moderate to heavy rainfall and thunderstorms islandwide.
Ian’s outer bands are passing south of the island and are particularly producing showers over southern and northeastern parishes. The Met Service says the rains could continue through to Tuesday as the storm makes its way out of the region.
Heavy rainfall may still cause flash flooding especially across low-lying and flood-prone areas. Residents are being urged to remain alert.
On its current path, Ian is expected to pass over the Cayman Islands on Sunday night and early Monday morning before approaching western Cuba.
