Grooms’ Accessories

Grooms’ Accessories

When we talk about wedding-day accessories, we’re usually talking about the bride-to-be, but the groom’s attire deserves a little attention, too. There’s no denying the importance of the groom’s wedding day look.

Whether he opts for a classic tux or a casual suit, the look is a significant component of the day. Don’t underestimate the power of printed socks, a pocket square, or sassy sunshades. There are plenty of ways to upgrade a classic suit or tuxedo with accessories that will make him stand apart in the crowd.

Find ways to personalise his outfit so that it feels like a perfect representation of his personality by selecting thoughtful groom accessories. From patterned ties to custom cuff links, groom accessories can drastically change the vibe of his wedding attire.

The commonest details that a groom will need for his attire include: dress shoes, socks, ties, and cuff links. I’ve put together some of the ideas I’ve seen worn by grooms on their wedding day to help find a few cool, thoughtful add-ons to the groom’s, and perhaps groomsmen’s, attire too.

Boutonnière

A boutonnière is usually a single flower which is pinned to the lapel of the groom’s jacket. A single flower or a bunch of mini flowers on the lapel of a jacket is so gentlemanly. As far as wedding accessories go, the single flower boutonnière is one of the most iconic, but you’re not limited to flowers when it comes to your boutonnières. Think of some outside-the-box ideas that can range from brooches to paper flowers.

Ties

The options for wedding neckwear are seemingly endless. Ties are one of the best and easiest ways to create a coordinated look for your groom and groomsmen. Whatever dress code you’re going for, from black tie formal to casual, there’s a tie (or bow tie) to match. The colours can match the bridesmaid’s attire or subtly complement their colours.

Timepiece

Watches are one of the few options that allow the groom to wear a piece of jewellery that is a bit special. It is also a great day to gift him the watch that he may have perhaps been eyeing. Watches are always a welcomed addition to his big-day ensemble.

Socks

The fact that socks are not on show all day, the groom can afford to go a bit crazy with what he chooses to wear. Socks are the perfect way to let his personality shine.

Pocket squares

This accessory will add sophisticated flair to his outfit. You don’t have to wear a tux to pull off a pocket square; men wearing a less formal wedding suit can also accessorise with a pocket square. A solid tie with a printed pocket square is a classic look. For a more modern and laid-back look, wear only the pocket square without a tie.

Shoes

Footwear is one of the most important components of men’s fashion: A lot can be said about a man based on the shoes he wears. They represent more than just a fashion choice; shoes show values, interests, and lifestyles. Therefore, men should wear shoes that are aligned with what the groom hopes to communicate on this big day.

Cuff links

Cuff links are charming accessories that add a finished look to a suit. They’re also a great close-up detail shot for the wedding photographer. Many online stores offer customised cuff links, and they come in a range of different materials and shapes as well!

Sunglasses

When the wedding is taking place on a sunny tropical island, like Jamaica, sunglasses become accessories that are often included. The primary purpose of this fashion accessory is to shield one’s eyes from the sun; there’s no denying that a pair of snazzy shades can make quite the fashion statement.

Tips

1. Do tell your wedding photographer to take specific shots of the accessories worn by the groom. Sock photos, close-ups of the tie and tie clip, or photos of the wedding party getting dressed are all moments and details you’ll enjoy looking back on.

2. Keep all your groomsmen’s accessories in one place until you’re at the getting-ready location. That way you know everything is there.

3. The groom’s accessories shouldn’t be treated as an afterthought; regardless of his style, men’s wedding accessories can change the overall look of his attire on the special day.
