It’s the return of the 1990s and 2000s retro party Big Chune this Saturday, October 1 at the Police Officers Club on Hope Road in St Andrew.

Dancehall artiste Alozade, who is looking forward to the event, will be sharing the stage with 1990s hitmaker Terror Fabulous.

“We haffi just give the people the full package. I did this event before the COVID, and it was good vibes all over. The promoters of this event have maintained their standard, so it’s a privilege to be a part of this event,” Alozade disclosed in an interview with the Jamaica Observer on Wednesday.

The deejay, whose real name is Michael Sterling, is best known for the hits Street Dreams, Bad Man Nuh Pet Gal, More Woman, and Bad Out Deh.

In 2004 he started his own label, South Block, and scored hits on his Chrome rhythm with Elephant Man’s Jiggy and Capleton’s Inna Har Heart.

His most recent single is Chip Chip.

Sheldon Cuff is one of the promoters of Big Chune. Along with business partners David Francis and George Miller, they have promoted Big Chune on three occasions.

“There have been two previous stagings, 2018 and 2019. Then the COVID-19 pandemic forced us to cancel the event in 2020,” said Cuff.

He explained the concept behind Big Chune.

“The main idea behind Big Chune was to have a party that guaranteed fun and to bring the biggest hit tunes from the 1990s straight up to 2010. We also want to bring back to the forefront many of the top acts of yesteryear that many people reminisce about and wonder where they are now,” Cuff shared.

Asked what patrons can expect at the event, he said, “The ladies better bring dem flats because Big Chune is the official 1990s/2Ks bruk out party. Patrons a guh dance till they are wet. It will be a night to remember. Fun guaranteed.”

DJs Bad Gyal Marie, ZJ Rush, ZJ Chrome, and DJ Alley have been commissioned to provide the musical juggling at Big Chune.

Said Cuff, “The event has grown tremendously since the first staging, and we have engaged a higher calibre of disc jocks to provide the music. We have added the live entertainment segment with performances by artistes, VIP Cabanas, and a much more spacious venue with greater ambiance. The patrons have given us their stamp of approval by coming out in greater numbers at each staging.”
