DINTHILL Technical, Manning’s School and St Elizabeth Technical High School (STETHS) moved within one victory of securing their places in the second round of the ISSA daCosta Cup football competition, after extending their perfect starts with wins in their return fixtures on Saturday.

Dinthill Technical ran their record to seven wins after turning back second-place Charlemont High 4-1 in their Zone K game in Linstead.

Jhamaleek Porter scored all five goals for Manning’s as they beat Black River High 5-1 for their sixth win in Zone D.

Clarendon College also stayed perfect with a 2-0 win over Edwin Allen High to take over the lead in Zone H, but both Irwin High and Paul Bogle High saw their record starts come to an end.

Daniel Roberts scored twice while Mikhaya McKoy and Shamar Hutchinson got one each for Dinthill Technical as they rolled to win number seven, improving to 21 points. They have five more than both second-place Charlemont and McGrath High, who beat Ewarton High 2-0.

Dinthill had won the first-round game 4-3 and have now scored 37 goals in their seven games while McGrath High slid past Charlemont High into second place on goal difference.

Porter, who had failed to score in the previous game for Manning’s, made amends when he found the back of the net five times on Saturday, taking his personal tally to 13 goals. Nine of those goals have come against Black River, whom he bagged four agaiinst in their 6-0 first-round win.

STETHS extended their winning start to six games, edging BB Coke 1-0 to push their points total to 18. They have three more than second-place Munro College, who lost 1-2 to Sydney Pagon High, while Maggotty High and Lacovia drew 1-1.

This was Sydney Pagon’s first win over Munro and their first in the competition since the 2019 season when they beat Lacovia and Black River High.

Irwin High appeared to still be celebrating their big come-from-behind win over former champions Cornwall College earlier in the week as they were held scoreless for the first time this season by St James High.

Irwin High had started their season with a 1-0 win over St James but could not breach their defence on Saturday. Irwin remain top of Zone A with 13 points.

Paul Bogle High had their six-game unbeaten run halted as they were upstaged 1-3 by St Thomas Technical. But, Paul Bogle are still in control of Zone L with 18 points.
