Brown’s Town, Seaforth move on

BROWN’S TOWN, St Ann — Brown’s Town High and Seaforth High both booked their places in the second round of the ISSA/Digicel daCosta Cup after wins in their first-round, return-leg games on Thursday.

Brown’s Town took second place in Zone I behind York Castle High after their 0-0 draw with Ocho Rios High, while Seaforth High took second in Zone L after beating St Thomas Technical 6-1.

Tacky High will have to wait for at least one more game before breaking their 16-year second-round drought after they were upset 3-2 by Horace Clarke High in their Zone J game.

Five games will be played today and one more school could book their place in the next round from Zone G, where second-placed Christiana High and third-placed Mile Gully are seeking to join Holmwood Technical.

Christiana High, who are on 12 points, must beat Holmwood Technical and would win the zone on goal difference, or Mile Gully, who are a point behind, can take over second place with a win over Alston High.

Also today, Dinthill Technical will be hoping to win all their first-round games in Zone K for the third time in the last six seasons after they were unbeaten in the 2016 and 2017 seasons.

The two-time champions will face second-placed McGrath High, who have also secured their berth in the next round.

On Thursday Brown’s Town did just enough to get second place in Zone I, finishing with 12 points, one more than Oracabessa High.

York Castle ended their first-round schedule with a 5-1 win over Marcus Garvey Technical and finished on 22 points.

Six different players scored for Seaforth High as they dominated St Thomas Technical, finishing with 21 points as Paul Bogle High beat Yallahs High 2-1 to eliminate them from advancing to the next round.

Zone J leaders Tacky High were expected to advance, but lost 3-2 to Horace Clarke to throw the group wide open with four schools still in with a chance to qualify from the group with one set of games to be played.

Tacky High are still ahead on 16 points, one more than Horace Clarke, followed by St Mary Technical with 14 points.

Former champions Glenmuir High lost their perfect record after they were held 1-1 by second-placed Central High, both on 16 points and already through to the next round, but Glenmuir High has played one game less.
