Promoting company Supreme Ventures Racing and Entertainment (SVREL) has received sponsorship valued at $500,000 from Mayberry Investment Limited to aid with the staging of the lucrative Mouttet Mile (invitational). The announcement was made during a press conference held in Kingston at Mayberry Investment Limited on Thursday, October 13, 2022.

Damian Whylie, general manager at Mayberry Investment Limited, said that his company has always been a strong supporter of the many sporting activities islandwide and so coming on-board for the Mouttet Mile was a no-brainer for his team.

“Historically, horse racing has been one of Jamaica’s most popular sporting events. Being a good fit with the brand’s personality, as it is a sporting event, we at Mayberry thought it imperative to immerse ourselves in this highly anticipated race.

“We are ecstatic at the many joyful reactions from the park’s horse racing fraternity, and we look forward to the race, which will take place on December 3, 2022,” Whylie said.

Solomon Sharpe, executive chairman at SVREL, welcomed the sponsorship from Mayberry Investment Limited.

“We are moving along in putting the pieces together for the inaugural running of the Mouttet Mile, as we all know this will be a big occasion, the biggest purse for one single event in the English-speaking Caribbean, and I daresay you should not just look at the US$125,000 purse for the feature race, but we will also be having the inaugural running of the Peter Stewart Memorial Plate for US$25,000. We are also working on the undercard and we will make announcements coming up soon for the supporting card and the purses for those races,” Sharpe said.

The Mouttet Mile (invitational) carries a total purse of US$125,000, making this the largest purse for a single event offered at Caymanas Park. Along with the historic Mouttet Mile set for December 3, 2022, another new event, the Peter Stewart Memorial Plate worth US$25,000, will also be staged over nine furlongs and 25 yards for qualified horses at the Overnight Allowance level.

The Mouttet Mile takes its name from main sponsor Paul Mouttet, chairman of the Trinidad and Tobago-based Zodiac Caribbean Ventures Limited, currently the largest shareholder of SVREL’s mother company, Supreme Ventures Limited (SVL). The Peter Stewart Memorial Plate is named in honour of SVL’s founding chairman, Peter Stewart.
