According to reports, Boris Johnson will reportedly run for prime minister again after Liz Truss resigned from the position on Thursday after just six weeks in the job.

Johnson resigned as prime minister in early July after his government was rocked by several ministerial resignations, which was prompted by the Partygate scandal.

The reports come on the heels of the Tory 1922 Committee chairman, Sir Graham Brady, stating that he expects Tory members to be involved in the process of selecting a new party leader, which could pave the way for Johnson’s return.

According to Yahoo News, a poll of Tory members, which was released on Wednesday, 63 per cent want Johnson to take over the party.

In addition, Johnson reportedly believes it would be in the “national interest” to run for prime minister once again. He is also said to be “taking soundings” regarding running for prime minister, according to the Times.

Member of Parliament, James Duddridge, expressed his excitement for Johnson’s possible return.

“I hope you enjoyed your holiday boss. Time to come back. Few issues at the office that need addressing. #bringbackboris,” he posted to his Twitter account.

Meanwhile, Johnson is currently on holiday with his wife Carrie.

But, Brady cited that he expects the new leader to be in place by Friday, October 28.

“I have spoken to the party chairman Jake Berry and he has confirmed that it will be possible to conduct a ballot and conclude a leadership election by Friday the 28th of October,” Graham told reporters.

“So we should have a new leader in place before the fiscal statement which will take place on the 31st,” he added.
