JAMAICA PREMIER LEAGUE TEAM PROFILES

Team: Harbour View

Coach: Ludlow Bernard

Home Venue: Harbour View Mini Stadium

Parish: Kingston

League position last season: Champions

Key players: Jahshaun Anglin, Colorado Murray, Nichalos Hamilton and Amal Knight

Coach says: “The objective is for us to retain our title. We want to emulate what Arnett Gardens did in 2001 by retaining our title this season.”

Team: Arnett Gardens

Coach: Paul ‘Tegat’ Davis

Home venue: Anthony Spaulding Sports Complex

Parish: Kingston

League position last season: Third

Key Players: Marlon Martin, Romeo Guthrie, Ajumo Johnson, Marlon Allen, Fabian Reid, Kimani Osbourne, Eric Edwards

Coach says: “I think that if we can go a step better than last season then we will be heading straight for the championship — and that is our aim for this season.”

Team: Mount Pleasant Academy

Coach: Theodore “Tappa” Whitmore

Venue: Draxhall

Parish: St Ann

League position last season: Fourth

Key players: Devonte Campbell, Alwayne Harvey, Ricardo Morris, Trivante Stewart and Damario Phillips

Sporting director says: The team that has been assembled here is a good, balanced, competitive team. I think that with the tactical genius of Coach Whitmore at the helm we will just execute, play good, entertaining football the right way, and we will live with the results.

Team: Portmore United

Coach: Phillip Williams

Parish: St Catherine

League position last season: Ninth

Key players: Jahiem Rose, Markland Burton, Rushane Thompson, Rudolph Austin

Coach says: “The ambition is to make it into the play-offs first and then we will take it from there. Portmore haven’t made it into the play-offs for a few years and so that is our aim for this season.

Team: Waterhouse

Coach: Marcel Gayle

Venue: Drewsland Mini Stadium

Parish: St Andrew

League position last season: First

Key players: Kenroy Howell, Ramone Howell, Denardo Thomas, Gregory Messam and Damion Binns

Coaches say: “The main focus is to go all the way but we are going to take it in stages. We have a much younger team compared to last year because we have lost a number of veteran players, and so it is for us to find the right blend throughout the season.

Team: Tivoli Gardens

Coach: Jermaine Johnson

Venue: Edward Seaga Sports Complex

Parish: Kingston

League position last season: Seventh

Key players: Trevaughn McKane, Rodico Wellington, Justin Dunn and Barrington Pryce

Coach says: “Our first aim is to make it to the play-offs, and we will take it a step at a time after that. We have a very good team this [year] but we just need to stay [focused] and maintain our discipline through the season

Team: Molynes United

Coach: Alex Thomas

Parish: Kingston

League position last season: 11th

Key players: Peter Harrison, Jamoy Cunningham, Bryan English, Jason Wright and Shamar Notice

Coach says: President Herman Cruckshank: “We are in a better state than last season because we will have a quality bench with quality players. Our first objective is to make it into the top six after the first round and then we will take it from there.

Team: Humble Lion’s

Coach: Andrew Price

Venue: Effortville Community Centre

Parish: Clarendon

League position last season: Seventh

Key players: Xavian Virgo, Andrew Vanzie, Levaughn Williams, Ricko Edwards and Shamari Dallas.

Coach says: “The objective is to ensure that we get to the play-offs. We want to play consistently and attractive football throughout this season.”

Team: Chapleton Maroons

Coach: Lenworth “Teacher” Hyde

Venue: Wembley Centre of Excellence

Parish: Clarendon

League position last season: Promoted

Key players: Damari Morrsion, Roshi Parchment, Marlon Penneycook, Alex Gayle and Ashani Ricketts

Coach says: The mindset is to show our class and show why we come here. We come here to make a statement and to make the top six of the competition

Team : Vere United

Coach: Linval Dixon

Venue: Wembley Centre of Excellence

Parish: Clarendon

League position last season: 10th

Key players: Ricardo Campbell, Ricardo Dennis, Shamar Oconnor, Roje Williams and Javier Brown

Coach says: “We want to do better than last season because last [year] was a tough year for us. As a new coach, I am looking for the team to do much better than last season. We have added some young players and we will be depending on them, along with our veteran players, to help get us into the top six.

Team: Dunbeholden

Coach: Jermaine Thomas

Parish: St Catherine

League position last season: Second

Key players: Cardel Benbow, Damion Thomas, Peter McGregor, Nickoy Christian and Fabina McCarthy

Coach says: “The plan is to maintain our number two spot. Our aim is to be in the final but we know that we have to be consistent by doing the right things in the right areas of the pitch.”

Team: Montego United

Coach: Donovan Duckie

Venue: WestPow Park

Parish: Montego Bay

League position last season: 12th

Key players: Nevaun Turner, Renaldo Wellington, Nazime Grant, Kevin Graham, Rodave Murray

Coach says: “The club finished last at the bottom of the table last season and so the objective is to avoid relegation this season because it is relegation season. The next objective would be to make our entrance in the top six because the teams that finished in the top six usually wins the league.

Team: Cavalier

League position last season: Third

Key players: Dwayne Atkinson, Richard King and Kyle Ming

Coach says: Sporting Director Rudolph Speid says: This is very young team and so aim is to make play-offs and we will take it from there. The average age of this team is 19 years old but these players are hungry and so I am expecting them to do well.

Team: Faulkland FC

League position last season: recently promoted

Venue: Jarrett Park

Key players: O’Brien Robinson, Kyle Anderson, Michael Heaven, Tyshan Hill

Coach says: : “We are not here to try and just survive; you must compete and try to compete at the best. We have to try and instill a winning mentality in the minds of the players.
