JP’s gun goes missing: cops launch probe
CLARENDON, Jamaica – The police have launched a probe after the firearm of a popular Justice of the Peace (JP) was stolen in Clarendon on Monday.
The gun, a Glock 17 with a magazine containing sixteen 9mm rounds, was stolen between 10:15 pm and 11:00 pm when the JP fell asleep in his motor car, the police said.
It was reported that the JP was at a party in the parish when he and a friend left to go to their homes.
On their way, they stopped under a street light near a bar, and the friend went inside to buy a drink for the JP, who removed his firearm and placed it on the driver-side floor mat.
The JP dozed off and was awakened by his friend a few minutes later, and they drove off. The JP reportedly dropped his friend home and went to his house.
It was reported that after arriving home he stretched his hand down on the mat to retrieve his firearm, however, he discovered that it was not where he had placed it.
He got out of the car and searched the vehicle, but the gun was not found. The police were summoned, and investigations into the matter commenced.
