Lannaman’s, ECA among early Alberga Cup pacesetters

Lannaman’s, ECA among early Alberga Cup pacesetters

PRESEASON favourites Lannaman’s Preparatory School have made a rampant start to the Jamaica Independent Schools Association (JISA) Alberga Cup Under-12 football competition after winning all three of their games while slamming 44 goals past their opponents in a clear indication of their title credentials.

Emmanuel Christian Academy (ECA), the team that came out on top in the last Alberga Cup season in 2019, is also off to a strong start and will also be hunting their third victory today when they face Ardenne Prep at Sts Peter and Paul, starting at 2:00 pm.

ECA stopped New Hope 14-0 on Monday after defeating Queen’s 9-0 in their opener a week ago as they look to secure their second-straight title.

They are joined at the top of Zone 3 by Liberty Academy, who many expect to make a deep run in the competition this season.

Liberty edged Sts Peter and Paul 1-0 on Monday after slamming Portmore Gospel Assembly Prep 10-0 in their opening contest. Liberty will host Queen’s today at 3:30 pm.

Lannaman’s, a perennial challenger and many-time winner of the competition, top Zone 1 with nine points following resounding 21-0, 12-0 and 11-0 victories over Obistan, Our Lady of the Angels (OLA) and Mavisville, respectively. Vaz Prep and Hillel Academy who have played two matches are the other undefeated teams in the zone.

Vaz defeated OLA 6-0 on Monday after 3-1 and 2-1 victories over Dunrobin Prep and AISK in their earlier games, while Hillel got the better of AISK (3-1) and Dunrobin (3-0) in their assignments.

Belair Prep has also jumped out to a strong start in Zone 4 after romping to a 7-0 victory over Glenmiur in their contest on Monday, and this after brushing aside El Instituto (3-0). They received all three points from their Charagape fixture after their opponents failed to show up for the contest.

Wolmer’s sit atop Zone 2 after securing two wins and a draw in their three assignments to date. They defeated St Andrew Prep 3-0, clipped Morris Knibb 2-1, and were held to a 1-1 draw by Glowell Prep.

They will play at home against Mona at 3:30 pm today.
