God of Love rules all in Caymanas Park feature
As expected, the Fitzgerald Richards-conditioned God of Love easily brushed aside rivals to win the $1.14-million, top-rated three-year-old and upward Overnight Allowance contest at Caymanas Park on Saturday.
God of Love, who had stepped down in class to compete the event over five furlongs (1,000m) on the round course, defeated rivals going away by 4 ½ lengths in a smooth time of 59.4 seconds on a common canter.
Ridden by Robert Halledeen, God of Love was always prominent during the running of the race as the six-year-old bay gelding surrounded horses and surged to the front going into the half-mile (800m) turn. God of Love held the lead over Will The Conquerer (Dane Dawkins) and Baton Rouge (Samantha Fletcher).
Cruising coming into the lane, God of Love turned on the pressure in deep stretch and ran out an easy winner in the end. Baton Rouge finished in second place, with the fast-finishing Prince Marshall (Oneil Mullings) getting up for third. Splits were 23.1 x 46.1.
It was the second winner on the nine-race card for Halledeen, as he earlier booted home Diligent for trainer Delroy Spencer in the sixth race.
Also with two winners on the day were trainer Gary Subratie and jockey Reyan Lewis. Subratie saddled Amad Ali (Allen Maragh) in the third and D Head Cornerstone, under Lewis, in the seventh race. Lewis’ other winner was Bootylicious in the opening event for trainer Ian Parsard.
Meanwhile, Freedom Street, trained by Patrick Lynch and ridden by Shane Ellis, won the $1.02-million BetMakers Trophy feature race over six-and-a-half furlongs (1,300m). Freedom Street won by 7 ¾ lengths ahead of Stomp The Rhythm (Dane Dawkins) and One Like It (Chris Mamdeen) in a time of 1:20.1.
Racing continues today with another nine-race card. Post time is at noon.
