Gayle stun Boscobel in St Mary Sandals/Costley T20 Blast
Social Development Commission (SDC) Twenty20 champions Boscobel were beaten by 108 runs by a rampant Gayle as action continued in the Sandals and Costley Construction-sponsored St Mary T20 Blast Division 1 at Boscobel on Sunday.
Batting first, on a fair batting track, Gayle who were SDC champs in 2019, amassed 168 for 9 off their 20 overs thanks to a top score of 40 from Gifton Wray who exhibited some blistering strokeplay.
He was well supported by Tacky High schoolboy Javier Green (34), while national Under-17 wicketkeeper/batsman Trevaughn Williams and Ellando Robinson chipped in with 19 apiece.
Bowling for Boscobel, Andel Gordon, the former West Indies Under-19 left-arm pacer, bagged three for 30 and Dwayne Hamilton took 2-28.
In their turn at the crease, Boscobel, without national player Alywn Williams, were bundled out for a paltry 60, with Tacky schoolboy Rogae Brown (44) being the only batsman to enter double figures. Six Boscobel batsmen fell for a duck as the impressive Jevaughn Hinds (4 for 18) and Jermaine Chisholm (3 for 17) ripped through their line-up. Hinds, in particular, got the ball to move both ways, clean-bowling a few batsmen.
In the opening Division 2 encounter, Highgate became the first team to qualify for the Elite Elimination Play-off, chalking up their third win on the trot with a comprehensive five-wicket win over Mango Valley.
Mango Valley were bowled out for 95 runs with Rolando Staple top scoring with a well-made 34 against national Under-17 pace bowler and schoolboy Jevone Wynter, who claimed four for 21 in an impressive spell. He was ably supported by DarrienWalker (three for 7).
Highgate cruised to 96 for five, thanks to skipper Gihon Murdock, who made 31 not out and Shannor Douse, who added 14 not out. Orlando Royce took two for 20 and Rolando Staple 2 for 27.
