Herbert Morrison avenge loss against St James High in U-19 basketball game
ST JAMES, Jamaica – Defending champions Herbert Morrison avenged their loss to St James High after beating them 83-56 in their ISSA Western Conference boys Under-19 return round basketball game on Monday.
St James High had won their first-round game and won their first four games, but their run ended on Monday as both teams tied for the lead on nine points.
Meanwhile, Cornwall College made it three straight in the Under-16 age group after beating York Castle High 60-18 at Cornwall College.
At Herbert Morrison, four players scored in double figures to lead the home team to their 27 points win.
Hubert Rodney’s 29 points led the scoring, followed by 18 points from Reinaldo Lewin, 16 points from Shemar Martin and 10 points from D’Aire Patterson.
Reiki Brown led St James High with 27 points, Josan Williams scored 10 points, Jodel Williams also had 10 points while T’Sean Crossman had 21 rebounds and 10 blocked shots.
Herbert Morrison got off to a strong start and led 25-5 after the first quarter, forcing St James High to chase the game and was up 38-19 at halftime, and 54-35 at the end of the third quarter.
In the Under-16 game at Cornwall College, the home team restricted York Castle to single-digit scoring in all four quarters, leading 14-6, 26-12 and 46-16 at the three breaks.
Matai Williams had a double-double to lead the Cornwall College team, scoring 31 points and 10 steals with Tyreeke Mowatt and Dajan Williams both scoring 10 points each.
Demar Lattibeaudiere had 12 rebounds and Raymond Morjon had 11 rebounds for Cornwall College as well.
Antwon Hardie scored eight points for York Castle High, while Christian Andorn and Jahdiel Salmon both scored four points each.
York Castle got some revenge, however, winning the Under-19 game 51-34, their second against Cornwall College who lost all five games played so far.
The teams were tied at 8-8 after the first quarter and Cornwall College edged ahead to lead 18-14 at halftime, but York Castle outscored them 37-16 in the second half as Mekhi Bentley led the winners with a double-double 20 points and 17 rebounds as well as eight steals.
Ajan Brown scored 15 points while Princeton Bryan scored six points.
Kelvin Green led Cornwall College with a season-high 22 points while Ethon Cardoza scored six points.
