First high school 3×3 basketball kicks off today
ST JAMES, Jamaica — A number of Jamaica’s top high school boys’ basketball teams will participate in Saturday’s inaugural high schools 3×3 basketball competition at the Jersey’s Mike’s Jamaica Classic NCAA tournament.
The NCAA tournament which had its first staging in 2017, got underway at the Montego Bay Convention Centre on Friday, returning after a three-year absence due to the coronavirus pandemic.
The high school competition was added this year.
The skills clinic which is run by NCAA coaches involved in the event and which involved high school players, boys and girls, will be held before the 3×3 which is set to start at 1:00 pm.
Twelve teams from nine schools will take part, separated into two groups of six each and will play games of 10 minutes per half or the first team to get to 21 points and games must be won by two points or more.
Two points will be awarded for baskets made from outside the arc and one point for those made from the inside.
Calabar High leads Group A which includes Herbert Morrison 1, Holland High 1, Knox College, St James High and York Castle. Group B will see Cornwall College, Excelsior High, Herbert Morrison 2, Holland 2, Manchester High and St James 2.
Schools from outside the western region were selected after a series of play-offs.
