World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims is celebrated on October 20.

It is a day full of sad faces but shadowed with great memories as we acknowledge victims of road traffic crashes and their families. It provides a global platform to remember those who were killed or seriously injured.

On this day we remember those who have suffered and pay homage to those who lost their lives. Our prayer is not to have more victims to remember.

This day should be an important tool for governments and all those whose work involves crash prevention or response to the aftermath of crashes since it offers the opportunity to highlight the enormous scale and impact of road traffic deaths and injuries.

The day should also serve as an alarm to the authorities to ensure that bribes are not taken to pass motor vehicles found to be unroadworthy. They should also make sure that all drivers are eligible to be driving and all road safety precautions are ahered to.

Road safety is everybody’s business.
