Canada-based rapper Kardinal Offishall, who is of Jamaican parentage and who is known for his distinctive reggae and dancehall influenced style of hip-hop, earned a gold certification from the British Phonographic Industry last Friday.

The certification commemorated 400,000 in streaming and sales for his 2008 hit single ‘Dangerous’ featuring Akon.

Dangerous, the fourth single from Kardinall’s album Not 4 Sales was a hit in the United States and Europe. It peaked at number 16 in the United Kingdom, number five on the Billboard Hot 100, number one on the Billboard Rhythmic Top 40, number 50 on Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs, and number two in Canada. It also charted in Austria, Australia, Belgium, Czec Republic, France, Germany, Finland, Poland, Romania and Sweden.

The single was previously certified 3x platinum in 2010 by The Canadian Recording Industry Association (now known as Music Canada).

The video for ‘Dangerous’ featured cameo appearances by DJ Khaled as well as members of the Jamaican sound system Black Chiney. The video was shot on location in Miami and directed by Gil Green. Green has directed music videos for several Jamaicans including Sean Paul and Elephant Man. One of his iconic works is Sizzla’s Thank You Mama video.

Dangerous won the JUNO Award (Canada’s equivalent to the Grammy) in 2009 for Single of the Year.
