“Mr Sub-10 turns 40” were the words inscribed in gold on the invite for celebrated sprinter Asafa Powell whose birthday celebration took place Wednesday, November 23, at The Serengeti, Hope Zoo. The black-tie affair attracted friends and family eager to pay tribute to the sprint sensation who has used his celebrity status to elevate his philanthropic endeavours in the country of his birth. “I am,” he said, “proud of the work I’ve done to date and will continue to support families, children, youth and young adults who are vulnerable in our communities.”
In lieu of presents, Powell asked for donations to the Asafa Powell SUB 10 Foundation.
“I have learned over this last decade and through COVID that giving, assisting and helping others is truly benevolent!” he concluded.
