Jamaicans failed to win any of the four awards they were in contention for as the World Athletics awards came to a close on Monday.

Jamaicans Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, Kerrica Hill and Jaydon Hibbert, who all won global gold medals, plus the Jamaica Athletics Administrative Association (JAAA), were nominated in various categories.

Fraser-Pryce was shortlisted for the Female Athlete of the Year award; Hill was named on the list for the Female Rising Star; Hibbert, the Male Rising Star, while the JAAA was among the federations vying for the Member Federation Award.

Fraser-Pryce won a fifth women’s 100m title at the World Athletics Championships held in Eugene, Oregon, in July and ran the 100m in 10.70 seconds or faster eight times with a season’s best 10.62 seconds.

Hill and Hibbert won the 100m hurdles and the men’s triple jump, respectively, at the World Athletics Under-20 championships in Cali, Colombia, in August.

On Monday, World champions and world record-breakers Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone of the USA and Mondo Duplantis of Sweden were named the World Athletes of the Year.

The Rising Star Awards went to Serbian javelin thrower Adriana Vilagos and US sprinter Erriyon Knighton.

Last week the Brazil Federation had been named winners of the Member Federation Award after hosting six international events successfully in 2022, including the South American Under-18 and Under-23 championships, the South American Cross Country Championships, the Pan American Cross Country Championships, a World Athletics Continental Tour Bronze meeting, and an international grand prix.
